Danelle K.

I went off to college in 92' to Azusa Pacific University where I attended for a year and a half before meeting my husband. I transferred and received my undergraduate from Cal State Long Beach in Child Development and Family Studies. I have been working in the Early Childhood field since 1995, teaching and directing both private and publicly funded preschools since.

In 1999 my husband and I traveled to Europe for the first time, and went to Holland (his family is from there) and France. It was a great trip-with lots of museums, a visit to Normandy and the Bordeaux wine country with lots and lots of wine!!!!:) It was a blast!

I began the process of my Master's Degree in Human Development specializing in Leadership in Education from Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena, CA back in 2000. I took a long break from school to get married in 2001, and then to have my baby in 2003. I am now at the research part of my master's degree and have begun to write my thesis, which will be completed in May 2008. At that time, I will finally graduate! After getting married in 2001, I moved to Madison, WI while my husband finished both of his Master's Degrees. We then moved back to Southern California, and have been living in Laguna Hills (in Orange county) up until Oct. 2005.

My husband and I decided to slow our lives down, sell our little house, and move ourselves and our daughter to Denver. I am now an independent contractor with Arapahoe County working as an Early Childhood Consultant with their Early Childhood Council and School Readiness Project. I will also begin to teach an Early Childhood Course in the Fall at Aurora Community College. My husband and I reside in Parker, CO in the Stonegate Subdivision (I don't live way out in the country side-we are only 5 minutes from I-25!). Our family loves the theatre, camping, hiking, fishing, and mountain biking. It’s been a great 15 years with lots of moving and traveling!

Danelle~ It’s really fun to hear what-all you’ve been doing (and seeing)! How neat that you’re doing human development stuff—that’s my field, too, though I look at adolescent and adult development. I’ve taken stats classes up the bazoo and have worked as a researcher for the last couple years, so, if ever you’d like a little research help, just let me know! : )

I left a comment for Content about this, too, but there’s something I’ve wanted to thank you both for for years now, so I’m so excited that Brandon is giving us this forum through which we can actually do something like this! = ) --when I came back to CSCS in 9th grade, I remember how you and Content kept reaching out to me in kindness, saying hi to me, making an effort to talk to me, inviting me to go do fun things with y’all…I was so broken and hurting at that point in my life, I really couldn’t respond normally. : ( I am really sorry—it must have been puzzling at the least, and perhaps even hurtful or kind of rejecting for you at the time! : ( What amazed me, even then—I mean, I was aware that I wasn’t socially “normal” but felt helpless to change that then—was that you both just kept on being so nice to me, despite not getting much of a response. ;-) And it strikes me that your willingness to reach out to me and to keep showing me kindness was very definitely a rare and untypical thing for a high-schooler to do! Thank you for letting God’s love shine through you during those times! Although I couldn’t respond the way I wanted to at that point in my life, I have never forgotten your kindness, and I know it became part of the whole healing process God worked in me through my years at CSCS. = ) It’s encouraging to think about a person like you being out there in the school system, Danelle—and teaching future teachers!
Blessings~

Hey lady...I see your mom every once in a while, always at the grocery store. It reminds me every time of how many of my CSCS memories have you in them. Just wanted to let you know that I think of your often! Glad to hear that you are doing well. Your little one is adorable! Blessings, Katie

Hi Danelle,
I just wanted to tell you that I think it's neat that you are an advocate for kids in Early Childhood. That was my area of specialty too and I loved it. I got my Masters in Early Childhood Education while I was teaching kindergaren in the Sheridan School District (I quit when my kids were born). Good luck with teaching the college course! I don't think I'd ever have the guts to do that! :)
