Katie S.

Life in my neck of the woods hasn't changed a whole lot in the last few years. Sam and I are still married (a miracle straight from heaven, for sure). Morgann is eight and will be starting 3rd grade at CSCS next month. I pretty much keep busy running her around the world to swimming, gymnastics, piano lessons, AWANA's, track, school, etc...besides still working full time. I finally quit being stubborn and sat for the CPA exam last year, so I am now official in the eyes of the IRS. I actually strangely enjoy the world of taxes.

My sister and I bought a cabin by Alcova Reservoir in Casper, Wyoming the summer before last and have spent a considerable amount of time driving back and forth to Wyoming on the weekends to play. Bought some jetskis and a boat and have been having a fabulous time. What a blast! Every kid should have a lake to grow up by. In the timeless words of Ferris Bueller, "If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up!"

My sister Charlotte made me an aunt a few months ago after five years, a long struggle to have a baby and eight months of bed rest. It's almost as good as having another child myself. We anticipated his arrival for so many years—he's really the apple of my eye (right after my own little one!)

Done some traveling over the last year...went to Australia over Christmas for a few weeks. My husband's mom lives just north of Brisbane so we stayed with her and did all he tourist stuff. Sam finally convinced me to get scuba certified before we went. So we went diving on the Great Barrier Reef. Freaking fabulous! Camped out on the beach where the sea turtles were coming up to lay their eggs. Went to the Australia Zoo to see the shrine built to Steve Irwin. What a great place—he really was an amazing environmentalist.

So, I after seeing it all written here, I'm reminded that I really do have all of the things in my life that make a life good. (And I thought life was really boring). My dad always tells me that the 30's are the best years of your life. You're not broke like you were in your 20's...you have spouses and children to enjoy...you're body is not yet old and hopefully you don't have all of the aches and pains of age. So, the best is yet to come. Hope all is well with you and yours!

(In the photo, that is my nephew Colton on my lap. My daugher, Morgann is the tall one on the far right and the other kids are my cousin's little girls...hanging out at the lake)

Katie, who does Morgan have for a teacher? Is she having a good year? Do you still go to some of the basketball games? I haven't seen you in awhile. Hope things are good, Missy

Katie—wow! I can’t believe you got to go diving along the Great Barrier Reef!! Oh woah, that must have been totally boggling!! It’s an amazing, beautiful world, isn’t it? = ) I think that is so super about you and your sis having the lake place to go to—I have also always thought that it’s so important for kids to be able to run and play outside as they grow up! Hurrah for such opportunities! = )
All the best to you,
Daria : )

Katie, wow, you did? Isn't she funny? I love my mom-in-law. Yes, Andy just had open heart surgery on Monday. He is doing great, so thank you so much for praying. I was really scared. It's incredible how vulnerable you become in situations like that. Thanks, Katie, for thinking of us. I'll tell Andy. Take care, Missy
